This book belongs to BettyLike many readers, my long love affair with books may have started with a Golden Book! How great to write my name in it … even if I still had trouble with my Ys. What Golden Book stands out in your memory? I know there’s at least one.

Probably the poky little puppy. I don’t know why, but it was always my favorite tale.

  2. Betty says:

    You and so many others!

  3. Lois Lowry says:

I remember them not so much from my own childhood, but from my children’s…and the ones I remember (they wouldn’t!) were the ones with illustrations by Eloise Wilkin. I was so fascinated by the details of those illustrations: the wallpapers, the smocked dresses… Loved them!

  4. Betty says:

They weren’t exactly great literature but they certainly had their charm. And they were affordable books you could own – even put your names in.

I absolutely fell in love with books because of Golden Books. They were wonderful examples of Literature! My mother brought one home for me every pay day(1 x a week!) My favorite was by a well noted author: Margaret Wise Brown. The name of the book was: Mr. Dog: The Dog Who Belonged to Himself. A big thanks to Margaret Wise Brown.
Also, my class just loves The World According to Humphrey. Could we write letters to you about our favorite parts?

  6. Betty says:

Hi, Darlene … I loved Margaret Wise Brown but I don’t know Mr. Dog. I’m going to try to find that one. There’s a wonderful biography of MWBrown called “Awakened by the Moon” by Leonard Marcus. But you’ll find her edgier than you might expect.
You can email me through my website (just hit Contact Me) or at betty@bettybirney.com. If you can scan your letters and email them to me, that’s the easiest for me. Otherwise, send me an email. Thanks!
